It starts here: Training Continues

“I am faithful to a proud heritage, a tradition of honor, and a legacy of valor,” was proudly recited during the Airman’s Creed by the young men and women of the 315th Airlift Wing Development and Training Flight during their unit training assembly on Oct. 13 Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.

These words never rang more true for the Dubois family as Brittany Dubois, a recently-enlisted member of the DTF, completed her first UTA. Brittany follows in the footsteps of her father, Chief Master Sgt. Bryan Dubois, 701st Airlift Squadron loadmaster superintendent.

“I now get to see both sides of the military,” said Brittany Dubois. “As a kid, watching my dad fly missions and serve in the Air Force Reserve, inspired me to join.”

As a part of the DTF, future Airmen are now trained and tested in the military standards required to succeed in basic military training. This was not always the case.

“I didn’t have anything like the DTF when I came in,” said Chief Dubois. “There was nothing to prepare us and we didn’t know what to expect. We also didn’t have a support structure as strong as the one that the DTF provides.”

As a part of the program, DTF members are introduced to numerous assessments such as physical fitness, memorization of the Airman’s Creed, military bearing, and drill and ceremony.

“The PT was an eye-opener for me,” said Brittany Dubois. “I thought I was prepared physically before getting here, but I quickly learned that I have some work to do. It was a huge motivator for me to run a lot more.”

In addition to the expected military training, DTF also encourages and guides the trainees to take steps to support their future careers in the Air Force.
“It’s a huge shock coming from college where I get to wear pajamas to class, to coming here at 4:30 a.m. dressed and ready,” said Brittany Dubois. “But, this discipline will help me do well in school and further my career even outside of the military.

This notion was further expanded upon by her father.

“Being a chief master sergeant, it’s nice to see our young people come in, who maybe didn’t have a military background, and get the training to prepare them for their careers in the military and be successful at BMT,” said Chief Dubois.

The trainees in the DTF combine their diverse backgrounds and experiences with the skills taught by the training staff. For Brittany Dubois, the legacy of her father’s service paired with her hard work and determination, are all qualities that will help to make her and her future Wingmen successful. This was evident as she shouted the last line of the Airman’s creed, “I will never falter, and I will not fail!”
