Santa made a special appearance on the Joint Base Charleston flight line during the 315th Airlift Wing’s annual Santa Flight Sunday afternoon.

JB Charleston Airmen and their families gathered to greet him aboard a C-17 Globemaster III where the children to told him what they want for Christmas.

Lt. Col. Susan Gordon, 315th Operation Support Squadron commander, brought her son to meet Santa who said “I can’t wait to see Santa and show him my holiday suit!”

The military family is a top priority within the 315th AW and the Santa Flight brings children into the magic of the holidays while giving Airmen the opportunity to share a unique experience on the aircraft. This event marks one of the many ways the 315th AW balances the Air Force Reserve triad of family, Air Force career and civilian employers.

“We look forward to bringing the family out every year,” said Gordon, “I’m glad we have a community like ours.”

This year marks the 13th anniversary for the Santa flight, bringing more than 100 personnel and their families to the base for the event. Capt. Duffy Mitchum, deployment and distribution flight commander at the 315th Logistics Readiness Squadron, helped coordinate the afternoon festivities.

“It was a pleasure to volunteer, just to see the faces of the children when they caught Santa landing in the C-17,” said Mitchum.
