(upbeat rock music) - Hey everybody, this is Major Wayne Capps, and welcome to Behind the Wing. Behind the Wing is the 315th Airlift Wing's newest podcast. We're super excited about kicking this project off. This first episode, if you will, is a little mini snippet of what you're gonna get when you start listening to this new podcast, Behind the Wing. It's gonna feature news, and everything we do here in the 315th, but this one's just a short little intro to tell you what you gonna get. So, I've got with me Michael Dukes. Michael is one of the producers on the show. He's also our news guy. So, hey Michael, what's going on? - Hey Wayne, yeah thanks. Pretty much we're always looking for new ways to reach our audience. And this podcast, I think, is a pretty exciting and easy to digest option for them. - Yeah, we used to do a TV show a couple years ago. It's called Troop Talk. It became such a huge burden and as far as producing it, but we wanted to keep those same kind of stories alive, so that everybody can digest what we're doing. It was a really popular thing, but it just became so big, and some of the cable outlets that were hosting us, they kept wanting more and more and more, and we just don't have the time or the energy to do that. So, transfer to a couple years now, and we've decided to kinda keep that thing going. And we've got a podcast now, and I think it's pretty cool. - Oh yeah, yeah. - So, what kinda stories, what're we gonna be doing? Talk to the audience about what this podcast is about. - Well, it's definitely not gonna be a corporate message. It's meant to be more for the folks down in the trenches on the front lines speaking to them at their level and in their voice. - Good, so it's not gonna be your typical-- and I don't wanna say it's a propaganda piece, but it's-- - Right. - It's not gonna be the Wing leadership talking to the troops. This is about members of the Wing talking to other members of the Wing and people out there, letting them know what we've got going on, what we're doing. - Yeah. - So, let's talk about the first show. The first show, we've planned it out. It's gonna come out, we're already working on it. But, we did wanna give you guys a little snippet, so that you can have something to look forward to. So, that's why we're just taping just a quick little segment today, to show you what we've got goin on. But, the first show, we'll have it out in about two weeks. So, Mike, tell us what somebody can expect. - Okay, so we'll be talking to some of our maintainers out on the ramp, who actually keep our planes flying. - And I think this is an important one, because we just came through a big hurricane. We evacuated 27 aircraft off the field, and if people at home don't understand what that's about, that's a huge, huge undertaking, especially when you've got some jets that are hard broke. So, I think that's kinda cool, and I'm lookin forward to talking with them. We're gonna talk to, hopefully, we've got this set up pretty soon. We're gonna talk to senior person, then somebody younger, who's out there, kinda just really turning those wrenches. I'm super excited. - Yeah, it's nice to have some of the behind-the-scenes folks. - Absolutely. And I think if you're around the base, you don't see it that often. But these guys are certainly, in my opinion, they're the unsung heroes of the base. They're out here. They're getting these planes ready, every single day. Of course, it's great being the aircrew and the pilot, but they get all the glory, because they're flying these humanitarian missions. They're flying the hurricane missions that you're seeing all over TV. But the maintenance guys, they're the ones out here busting their tails. So, I'm excited to tell their story. - Absolutely. - So, I look forward to talking with those folks. And then, we have your new segment, which I think's gonna be a blast. - Keep everybody up to date on the latest that's goin on in the wing. - Yup, and then my cohost, Tech. Sergeant Bobby Pilch will be in here. We're gonna learn about what's goin on, and then we have a news talk segment. - Which includes things like our recruiting service. - Yeah, we get a lot of emails, lot of phone calls, about how do I join the Reserves. How do I join the 315? I probably get at least a couple emails a week, by people wanting to become pilots. And we always send those over to the recruiters, so this is an opportunity. It's not a pitch, it's not hey come join us. That's not what we're about. But it's more informative, just an open chat about some of the challenges that recruiters have. And some of the things that they have going on, and some of the jobs that they have opening, because what I think is interesting, when I switched over from active duty to the Reserve is, a lot of people don't realize that the active duty, you get put into a job, and if you're lucky, you get selected for a job, and you work that job. In the Reserve, it works a lot like a civilian job. You find your job, you interview for it, and it's typically a pretty good deal. You're in charge of your own destiny. I think that's what I like about the Reserve the most. And then-- - And we'll also be talking to some aircrew members and pilots. - Yeah, I think that's cool. We're gonna do a feature story at the end of every show. And this month, we're featuring our aircrew members, and we've done some really amazing stuff in the past year. This summer, we flew the Mach Loop, which I want to talk to them about, which has absolutely blown up the internet, if you haven't seen that. The 315th actually flying the Mach Loop. Basically it's a low level training field over in Wales, and normally only fighters fly this loop. Basically, it's a canyon, if you will. So, I was actually over there with them. I was on the jet with these guys, and they flew through a canyon in a C-17. It was the coolest thing, and if you're not a fan of aviation here in the States, it's a normal thing. But, aviation-related stuff is really big in Europe. And, let me tell you, all of those plane spotters and bloggers and photographers, every one of them were talking about the C-17 flying the Mach Loop. They thought it was amazing, and it was a sight to behold, that's for sure. So, we wanna talk to the pilots who did that. We wanna talk about some humanitarian stuff that we do. And I wanna talk about basically, we've got this hurricane going on right now. Joint Base Charleston is out there right now, flying missions. So, we wanna talk to them about what they've got going on. So, that's what this whole project is all about. This whole podcast is about us talking to you all about what the 315's doing. So, I think it's gonna be kinda interesting. - Absolutely, I'm really looking forward to it. - Yeah, we're gonna be able to really get in there. We're gonna have a good time. It's not gonna be your typical Air Force, and I'm not knocking the AFM products or things like that, it's not gonna be those typical Air Force products. This is gonna be us sitting down, really chatting it up on a personal level with some of the folks in the wings. So, we're gonna be interviewing and talking to the people on the ground doing the work. So, I'm super excited about that. Alright, so that's it for this little snippet, our little introduction piece from Behind the Wing. I'm super excited. Look for Behind the Wing from the 315th Airlift Wing in about two weeks, and we will see you all soon. And let us know, give us some feedback. And you can always find us on Facebook, twitter, we're everywhere on the net at 315th Airlift Wing. So, look us up, we wanna hear from you, and we wanna know what you think about the podcast. We want to know. Give us some story ideas. We'll talk about it, send us questions. Anything you wanna know, we'll answer it, good, bad, or ugly. So, let us know what you wanna hear. But, Behind the Wing starts in about two weeks. We're excited, we'll get this thing out, and we'll advertise it like crazy. But, stay tuned! On behalf of the 315th Airlift Wing, my cohost Tech. Sergeant Bobby Pilch, who's not here, and our news guy, Michael Dukes, thank you guys so much, and we will see you soon, right here, on Behind the Wing. (upbeat rock music)
