About 350 family members and fellow service members packed the Joint Base Charleston Chapel Wednesday afternoon to honor the life and service of Staff Sgt. Richard C. Spofford III, 315th Maintenance Group, who died last weekend while performing duties during his unit training assembly here. Spofford, age 26 was born in Naples, Italy and was a North Charleston resident. He was known as "Ar-Cee" to his family and close friends. The consensus of everyone who spoke of him at the service was that Ar-Cee's smile always lit up a room. He joined the Air Force Reserve Dec. 21, 2006 until July 12, 2014 when he died. He worked as a 315 MXG maintenance scheduler. (Courtesy photo)
