  • Social Security Payroll Tax Deferral

    In order to provide relief during the COVID-19 pandemic, a Presidential Memorandum was issued on August 8, 2020 and guidance followed from Internal Revenue Service on August 28, 2020, to temporarily defer Social Security (Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) tax withholdings. This change is effective through the end of the 2020 calendar year.
  • Air Force Services Center launches online food ordering pilot program at NAF operations

    The Nonappropriated Fund, or NAF, Food and Beverage Branch is launching a pilot program bringing online food ordering and pickup to NAF food operations.
  • Department of the Air Force delegates approval authority for nonchargeable emergency leave of absence

    Unit commanders or civilian directors may now grant an emergency leave of absence for qualifying emergencies, including the death or serious medical condition of an immediate family member, or any other hardship the commander or director determines appropriate.

  • Joint Base Charleston rescinds Mission-Critical status

    Joint Base Charleston has adjusted manning from Mission Critical to standard base operations as of 8 September 2020 at 0600L.  Additionally, the process to allow base access for visitors will return to the normal procedures that were established before COVID-19 measures were implemented.
  • Air Force seeks dress and appearance ideas through new crowdsourcing campaign

    Airmen and civilians are invited to submit ideas beginning Sept. 3.
  • Lt. Col. Steve Campbell takes command of the 701st Airlift Squadron

    Lt. Col. Steve Campbell took command of the 701st Airlift Squadron at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, from Lt. Col. Ronnie Schier in front of members of the 315th Airlift Wing, friends and family here and via Facebook live in front of 416 viewers to help adhere to social distancing guidelines Sept. 2, 2020. “I can’t begin to describe how excited I am to serve you in this new role,” said Campbell. “I am here to serve you.” Col. John Gurrieri, 315th Operations Group commander, officiated the change of command ceremony. Campbell previously served as the Assistant Chief Pilot for the 701st Airlift Squadron. Schier is going on to be a Joint Planner at the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command.
  • Joint Base Charleston Privatized Housing Resident Advocate supports base residents

    When base housing across the Department of Defense faced scrutiny, programs and positions were implemented to improve housing and give residents a better way to help get their issues resolved. A Privatized Housing Resident Advocate empowers military residents to identify and resolve privatized housing challenges across military installations. Joseph Powell, the 628th Air Base Wing privatized housing resident advocate, said the position was created so residents of military bases have someone to advocate for them.
