The oldest C-17 pilot in the Air Force retires, whose departure marks the end of a legendary career. With more than 35 years of dedicated service, Lt. Col. Rick Davis, 317th Airlift Squadron aircraft operations officer, retired following an official ceremony Feb. 12, at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.

The 315th Airlift Wing received news late last week that one of its members, Senior Master Sgt. George  Counts Jr., died in a car crash along with his wife and father. Majors Mike Stratton and Jason Williams along with loadmasters Eric Zilaitis and George Counts, 317th Airlift Squadron Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., maintained the C-17 static display at Ysterplaat Air Force Base, Cape Town South Africa Sept. 21-25. The Africa Aerospace and Defense Exposition was the largest expo of air, land, and sea capabilities on the African continent. The 315th Airlift Wing received news late last week that one of its members, Senior Master Sgt. George Counts Jr., died in a car crash along with his wife and father. On the evening of Feb. 3 in Barnwell County, South Carolina, Counts’ vehicle was struck head on by another vehicle killing him, his wife Cynthia Counts, and father George Michael Counts, Sr. George Counts, Jr. was chief loadmaster with the 317th Airlift Squadron.

Reservists at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina can rest assured that their participation in humanitarian efforts is truly appreciated and occasionally they get feedback from those on the receiving end. Most recently this feedback came from U.S. Southern Command after another Denton cargo delivery to the Dominican Republic by members of the 317th Airlift Squadron on June 12. A bulk of the cargo on this delivery was pallets containing 600 pairs of Croc-style shoes donated by an organization called Shuzz Fund. The recipients were for school-age children in underserved communities in the Province of Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Dominican Republic, in conjunction with USSOUTHCOM’s New Horizons Training Exercise Dominican Republic 2016.
