Chief Gigi B. Manning is the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 315th Airlift Wing, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. The wing is an associate reserve unit maintaining C-17A aircraft flying around the clock to provide airlift support and aeromedical evacuation. The 315 AW enables its active duty counterparts, the 437 AW and 628 ABW, to participate in military operations involving the air-land and airdrop of troops, equipment and supplies; responds to Joint Chiefs of Staff-directed special operations missions; and supports U.S. sponsored humanitarian relief efforts worldwide. Chief Manning advises the commander on matters influencing the health, morale, and welfare of over 2,500 reserve members, 20 percent of which have been on long-term orders.
Chief Manning enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Sept.r 17, 1984 and attended Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB, TX. After the original enlistment, she transitioned directly into the Air Force Reserve Command on April 1, 1989. Chief Manning has held numerous positions throughout the 437th and 315th Maintenance and Mission Support Groups culminating in her selection as Command Chief.
