Originally, designated as the 560th Civil Engineering Squadron in November 1966, based at Eglin Air Force Base, FL, the unit’s mission was to train new RED HORSE personnel destined for Southwest Asia in the Vietnam War until it’s inactivation early 1970. Today the 560th RED HORSE SQUADRON is an Air Force Reserve unit activated 1 Nov 2008 at Joint Base Charleston, SC.

Mission: Our mission is to provide air component commanders a dedicated, mobile, flexible, self-sufficient heavy construction engineering force for airfield, base infrastructure and special capabilities construction to support worldwide contingency operations. We provide limited vertical construction capability while specializing in the design, construction and repair of runways, taxiways, parking aprons and heavy earthwork as a stand alone for short term; indefinitely with resupply and repair capability in remote, high-threat environments worldwide.

Organization: We are a tenant organization to Joint Base Charleston where our Active Duty host wing is the 628th Air Base Wing. Joint Base Charleston is also home to the Reserve’s 315th Airlift Wing and the Active Duty 437th Airlift Wing.  We report to the 622th Civil Engineer Group, 22th Air Force currently located at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, GA.

The 560th RED HORSE Sq. has played a role in OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, & INHERIT RESOLVE since its founding in 2008.

During the 2017 Deployment, the 560th RED HORSE constructed 10+ PEB (Pre-Engineered Buildings in support of INHERIT RESOLVE.
