Charleston Reservists earns state AFA awards Published April 3, 2017 By Michael Dukes 315th Airlift Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The South Carolina Chapter of the Air Force Association announced their selected today of a Charleston Citizen Airman as their 2017 Outstanding Aircraft Technician and Joint Base Charleston Outstanding Person of the Year.Tech. Sgt. Jason Colon, 315th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, took the two awards this year in a field of other candidates from Joint Base Charleston, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. and McEntire Joint Nation Guard Base, S.C.Colon will compete with Outstanding Persons of the Year from the other two South Carolina Air Force Bases. The SCAFA announcement said the organization will announce the South Carolina Air Force Person of the Year at a luncheon later this month.“Tech Sgt. Colon is an awesome technician and selfless teammate,” said Chief Master Sgt. Timothy Swick, 315th AMXS superintendent. “He understands our mission and objectives, and is always working toward results!”The AFA is a non-profit, independent, professional military and aerospace education association promoting public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of the nation. AFA holds national symposia, publishes Air Force Magazine, and disseminates information through outreach programs.It sponsors professional development seminars and recognizes excellence in the education and aerospace fields through national awards programs. AFA presents scholarships and grants to Air Force active duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve members and their dependents; and awards educator grants to promote science and math education at the elementary and secondary school level.
