Senior Master Sgt. Gina Louis was a member of the flag folding team for Col. Sandra Opeka's retirement ceremony Sept. 8, 2012 at Joint Base Naval Air Station Fort Worth, Texas.

Opeka was one of Louis' mentors in the Air force Reserve, and the two of them originally met during a conference for Women in Aviation.

According to Senior Master Sgt. Denise Swick, 315th Airlift Wing computer superintendent, Louis' actions were a true demonstration of service before self as she funded the trip to Texas herself.

"Her actions are evidence of another Airman representing the 315 AW and the honor guard team in a very positive light," Said Swick.

Louis is the 315 AW Honor Guard NCO in charge, a member of the mini C-17 team, and actively participates in Women in Aviation.

Louis was happy to give of her time and resources to attend the ceremony.

"The ceremony was perfect," said Louis. "I did the two-man flag fold with another honor guard member from Lackland. We didn't miss a step, and General Gourley gave us much kudos."

Maj. Gen. Craig Gourley is the Air Force Reserve Command vice commander.
