Members of the Rotary Club of Goose Creek participated in a tour of Joint Base Charleston, S.C., July 31.

The Rotary club members visited the base to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the U.S. Air Force mission, the Airmen who serve, and the local and global support provided by JBC.

According to the Rotary Club of Goose Creek's Web site, Rotarians plan and carry out a variety of humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs in an effort to touch people's lives in their local communities and around the world.

While on the base, Rotary club members spent time with Lt. Col. Allan Terry, 317th Airlift Squadron chief of standardization and evaluation. Terry volunteered his time and gave the Rotary club members a tour of a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft and answered questions about past, present and future mission of JBC.

Marc Knight, Rotary club member and vice president branch executive at Southcoast Community Bank in Goose Creek, S.C., helped organize the tour and was thankful for the opportunity to visit the base.

"The mission of Rotary Club is service above self," said Knight. "Our mission is represented in the core values of the Air Force, and I'm amazed at how much teamwork it takes to complete missions overseas and locally here at home."
