Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner Jr., commander, Air Force Reserve Command, visited with Airmen of the 315th Airlift Wing Oct. 6 here as part of his "East Coast" tour of several AFRC units.

General Stenner began the day by attending breakfast with a select group of Airmen from the 315 AW. During the breakfast the general shared a few stories of his past and how he emerged through the ranks to his current positions as chief of Air Force Reserve and commander of AFRC.

Each of the 10 Airmen from the 315 AW was given the opportunity to share his or her thoughts with the general, and, in turn, he gave his insight on topics ranging from the AFRC Seasoning Training program, the "Fit to Fight" program, and what the future looks like for members of the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Chief Master Sgt. Gigi Manning, 315 AW command chief master sergeant, attended the breakfast and encouraged the younger troops to make the most of their AF career.

"Do what you love to do," said Chief Manning. "Several years ago I was given the opportunity to take a different path, but I really enjoyed what I was doing. I stayed with what I enjoyed and it got me to where I am today."

After breakfast, General Stenner attended a joint wing mission briefing hosted by the base's three wing commanders. Col. Steven Chapman, 315 AW commander, Col. Richard McComb, 628th Air Base Wing commander, and Col. Erik Hansen, 437th Airlift Wing commander gave General Stenner an overview of the day-to-day operations performed by the men and women of Joint Base Charleston, S.C.

General Stenner also held a town hall meeting" and presented five key points for the continued success of the USAFR:
  1. Continue to strengthen the nuclear enterprise
  2. Partner with the joint, and coalition team to win today's fight
  3. Develop and care for Airmen and their families
  4. Modernize our air, space and cyberspace inventories, organizations, and training
  5. Recapture acquisition excellence
General Stenner concluded the meeting by encouraging Airmen to get involved with recruiting and help bring more talented people into the Air Force Reserve.

"The Get One Now program is the best way for the recruiters to bring people into the Air Force," said General Stenner.
