Members of the 315th Airlift Wing Public Affairs office and Reservists with the various squadrons around the wing, embarked on a video project to showcase the mission of the 315 AW and to capture the attention of a younger audience.

"After conducting a tour of young children at the base and seeing they were not very interested in our current mission video, we knew it was time to create something unique and engaging for this audience," said Captain Wayne Capps, public affairs officer assigned to the 315 AW.

Captain Capps said the video was inspired while waiting in line at the attraction "Mission: Space" during a recent family vacation to Disney's Epcot theme park.

The video, "Mission: Airlift", was filmed during June and July at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. and takes the viewer on a simulated C-17 mission with the 315 AW.

"This was definitely a public affairs team effort," said Captain Capps. "We put our heads together and produced a technical video in a way that kids could understand what we do."

The video production even incorporated green screen technology using a virtual "space ship" set in order to help the video appeal to a younger audience.

"Being able to be a part of the public affairs team that created this is very rewarding," said 2nd Lt. Jeff Kelly, a public affairs officer assigned to the 315 AW. "Anytime you can be a part of something that has not been done before is exciting. This was fun, but it was also very educational and more importantly, useful for the wing and the Air Force Reserve.

"With this video, we are continuing to tell the story of what the 315 AW does, we are just telling it in a different way to a different audience," said Lieutenant Kelly.

The video will be used for tours and be available for speaking presentations in the community by our wing members.

Members of the 315 AW who would like a copy of the video may stop by the Pubic Affairs office and pick up a DVD as they are available. The video can also be viewed on YouTube here.
