A group of young students from The Charleston Catholic School brought their energy and open minds to the 315th Airlift Wing here while spending a day touring several of the wing's functional areas Nov. 19, 2010.

The children arrived at Joint Base Charleston with pens and paper in hand ready to take notes on the day's activities. Students experienced a mission briefing, pre-flight weather briefing and climbed aboard a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft for a static tour.

Once aboard the stationary aircraft, students had the opportunity to sit in the pilot's seat on the flight deck and learn about the functions of the many buttons and switches laid out before them. Several Reservists from the 317th Airlift Squadron explained the functionality of the aircraft's cargo area followed by the lowering of the cargo door, opening their view to the flight line as aircraft landed on and exited the runway.

The tour concluded with the students indulging in their brown-bag lunches at JBC's Air Park, home to several historic aircraft, a C-124C Globemaster II, C-121 Constellation and C-141B Starlifter, that seem like distant memories. For the students, their visit will be a memory not to be forgotten any time soon.
