Senior Master Sergeant Neil Mann, 315th Airlift Wing Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. was named the 2010 South Carolina Air Force Association Outstanding Logistics Person of the Year at the AFA State Awards Luncheon held April 24 in Summerville S.C.

Sergean Mann will go on to compete nationally with each of the other 49 state award winners.

"The Air Force Association is a national organization that educates the public about the role of aerospace power in the defense of our nation," said Dallas Ratliff, spokesman for the South Carolina AFA. "The AFA sponsors professional developement and excellence in the aerospace fields through scholarships and grants to Air Force members and dependents."

Sergeant Mann is an aircraft maintenance unit section chief with the 315th Maintenance Squadron and has spent his entire 25 year career with the 315th AW.

Sergeant Mann began working on the instruments of the C-141 in 1985, transitioning to the C-17 in the 1990s where he worked on the flight line as well as an avionics flight chief.

"I've been fortunate that through my career I've been become a sort of 'jack of all trades'," said Sergeant Mann.

Sergeant Mann's career began as a traditional reservist, going where ever the next set of orders would take him. He first became an Air Reserve Technician with the 315th in 1996 and has no intention of stopping any time soon.

"I've had the opportunities to take civilian jobs and return to being a traditional reservist but the benefits of being an ART here outweigh anything I've seen on the outside," said Sergeant Mann. "In my opinion, there is no better place to be an ART than here at the 315th Airlift Wing."

According to his superiors, Sergeant Mann is a model Senior NCO and outstanding leader for the largest squadron in the Air Force Reserve. His mentorship and oversight of maintenance personnel has made the 315th AMXS one of the top maintenance squadrons in all of Air Mobility Command.
