CHARLESTON S.C. --  Tech. Sergeant Africo Smalls, a munitions tech with the 315th Maintenance Squadron, Charleston Air Force Base S.C. is deployed to Joint Base Balad, Iraq for 120 days.

While deployed Sergeant Smalls is a Conventional/Precision Guided Munitions Crew Chief responsible for a crew of three to five personnel. Sergeant Smalls and his team perform routine maintenance on the munitions stock pile being used in the current mission in Iraq.

Sergeant Smalls is also the safety rep for Conventional Maintenance ensuring every member knows the proper safety procedures when working with live munitions.
