Maintenance Chief receives Bronze Star Published July 27, 2009 By Major Bill Walsh 315th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Office CHARLESTON AFB, S.C. -- Chief Master Sergeant Gigi B. Manning was awarded the Bronze Star, our nation's fourth highest medal, at a ceremony held on Sunday, July 26th. Chief Master Sergeant Manning distinguished herself as Chief Enlisted Manager, Detachments 1 and 2 of the 755th Air Expeditionary Group supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Under continued threat of hostile fire and improvised explosive devices, Chief Manning bravely operated as truck commander, driver, spotter and shooter; traveling more than 800 miles to 10 forward operating bases supporting Airman as they performed their missions in an austere combat environment. In addition, Chief Manning coordinated visits by the Afghanistan Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior. She also contributed to the success of over 280 personnel advising the Afghan National Army and 257 personnel serving in brigade support and combat support teams with the United States Army throughout Afghanistan. The Bronze Star is a United States Military individual decoration and awarded for heroism, bravery or meritorious service.
