It's beginning to look and feel a little more like the holiday season every day. If you noticed a little different look to Hill BLVD as you came to work through the front gate that is because individual units recently had the chance to show off their talents and holiday spirit by participating in the Arts and Crafts Center Christmas card contest.

There were three top prizes and out of the nineteen units to participate in this year's contest only two came from the 315th Airlift Wing; and both of these units ranked in the top three.

Third place winners were the 315th Mission Support Squadron whose Christmas card featured a scene out of Dr. Suess' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" with the Grinch flying on a C-17 Globemaster III over the town of Whoville.

First place winners were the 315th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron whose Christmas card featured seven reindeer hanging on for dear life (no pun intended) to the wing of a C-17 Globemaster III. Four people helped with the overall design and construction to include Master Sergeant Michele Summers, Technical Sergeant Mike Nalley, Staff Sergeant Simone Cobbett, and Senior Airman Shawn Summers.

"We worked on the card for 5 days the week before Thanksgiving," said Tech. Sgt. Mike Nalley, a Crew Chief for the 315th AMXS, " We got the initial design concept from a Christmas card, and then changed the design to incorporate a C-17 instead of a commercial airplane. We also wanted to incorporate a 3-D effect."

This is not the first time that 315th AMXS has participated in the Christmas card contest. They also participated two years ago where they also received first place. The tradition of the contest itself has been going on for more than fifteen years.

"We were pleasantly pleased to win first place," said Tech. Sgt. Nalley. "We felt that the amount of time, effort, and energy we put into this project would put us in contention for one of the top spots."

The prizes for the Contest included $300 in Credit for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place to be used at the Charleston Club, Outdoor Recreation Center, Starlifter Lanes Bowling Center or Wrenwoods towards a squadron function along with a specially engraved plaque to display.

All cards will remain on display until January 2, 2009.
