November, a time of thanks Published Oct. 31, 2006 By Col. Timothy Wrighton 315th AW commander Charleston Air Force Base -- I spent the last several days visiting our facilities and meeting many of our 315th and 437th Airlift Wing members. Becky and I truly appreciate the warm welcome by all of Team Charleston. It was immediately obvious to me as I traveled around and talked to people that there is a tremendous pride among our members. I believe this pride stems from having the opportunities that go with being a part of this great wing and its important mission. Our organization is diverse, successfully operates in a dynamic environment and does so extremely well. I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of it. The month of November brings us Veterans Day. During World War I, the Armistice went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. "Armistice Day" became a US holiday in 1926. Over the years it has evolved to Veterans Day, a day our nation sets aside to honor all U.S. veterans.Several events are planned around the 11 November time frame. Our wing has an established tradition of participating in the annual Charleston parade so I hope to see some of you there. Also, please take the time to remember our nation's veterans, past and present. November also brings us an opportunity to share time with friends and loved ones to give thanks. As citizens of the greatest country to ever exist, we have a lot to be thankful for. It is a way of life our fore fathers were willing to fight and die for. The enduring spirit of freedom lives in all of us as we continue to fight the difficult global war on terror. Please take the time to relax with friends and loved ones while remembering our deployed members who cannot do so. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving and I sincerely thank you for your service Team Charleston.
