A reservist from the 315th Maintenance Squadron made history at the Charleston Air Force Base Airman Leadership School by being the first reservist to win two of the class awards.

Senior Airman Jeremy Ward, who has been with the 315th Airlift Wing since June 2004, recently won both the Leadership Award and Distinguished Graduate Award. According to Command Chief Master Sgt. Michael Petersen, 315th AW, this is the first time a reservist has won both awards.

Airman Ward said he was honored to be viewed as an outstanding leader. “There was strong competition at ALS since there were several Airmen who demonstrated outstanding leadership traits and principles.”

As an aerospace apprentice (crew chief) in the aero repair shop, Airman Ward said his job offers him a lot of variety in work.

“Some days we have gear door changes or main landing gear changes or flight control changes. However, some days we can have inspections on various components of the aircraft.”

For Airman Ward, the best part of his job is “making a difference in the defense of our nation. This is a task that not every American citizen is able or willing to do.”

As a civilian, Airman Ward works as a Mt. Pleasant, S.C., police officer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Georgia and has completed six classes towards his master’s degree in business and organizational security management from Webster University.
