The 315th Mission Support Group and the 315th Military Personnel Flight have been named tops in Air Force Reserve Command for 2005.

The MSS was named the Outstanding Mission Support Squadron, Category I, while the MPF was named the Gerrit D. Foster Jr. Outstanding Military Personnel Flight, Category I.
“This is the first time we have won both,” said Maj. Michael Burns, 315th MSS and MPF commander. “They (the unit members) certainly deserve it.”

“We are excited because we realize hard work paid off,” said Chief Master Sgt. Karen Chisolm, 315th MPF superintendent.

According to Major Burns, the MSS has three distinct functions – personnel support for the men and women of the 315th Airlift Wing and their families, education and training issues and communications.

With the War on Terror still going strong, the 76-member unit has continued to perform these missions under a higher operations tempo with great success.

The MPF has managed to continue to provide customer service on personnel issues while maintaining a data accuracy of 99.97 percent on a monthly-basis, according to Chief Chisolm.

This success comes from the unit’s “desire to want to be the best,” she added. “They would continue to do the job they do every day, regardless of recognition or awards.”

The commander also attributes some of this success to the outstanding section leaders within the unit. “They lead the people in their sections very well.”

But it is not just the leaders who have impressed the unit’s commanders.

“They (the unit members) have a standard of excellence they have been working by for years,” said Major Burns.

“This is an honor (to win), and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without teamwork,” added the chief.
