JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- As hurricane Ian reaches Florida and makes its way toward South Carolina in some form, here are the following updates from Col. John Robinson, 315 AW commander:
The earliest onset of tropical storm force winds in Charleston is expected at 3:30 p.m. local time tomorrow. The maximum wind is forecasted for Friday at 2 p.m. from 50 to 60 knots. Tropical storm force winds are expected to subside by 10 p.m. on Friday evening. Favorable conditions are expected by Saturday at noon.
The Child Development Center and Youth Center will be closed Friday. The Visitor Control Center will close Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and remain closed Friday. The Medical Group and Naval Health Clinic will close tomorrow at 12 p.m. and will remain closed on Friday. The Medical Group Pharmacy has extended its hours through 6:30 p.m. Other base services may be impacted, so be sure to stay up to date on our Facebook Page at: www.facebook.com/315AW
The aircraft are being moved, but there isn't an evacuation order from the Base or the State at this time, and an evacuation order for the Base is not expected at this time. Expect early dismissal tomorrow around noon and minimum manning on Friday with telework as the expectation.
Realizing that local schools are closing tomorrow and Friday, please coordinate exceptions to the early dismissal/min manning/telework with your supervisor.
