Department of the Air Force updated guidance on Implementing Policy on Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness

On May 9, 2025, the Department of the Air Force (DAF) released the memorandum Implementing Policy on Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness for Executive Order 14183, ‘Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness, the direction that the medical, surgical and mental health constraints on individuals who have a current diagnosis or history of, or exhibit symptoms consistent with, gender dysphoria and who were encouraged to elect to separate voluntarily is reinstated and extended to June 6, 2025.

Service members subject to the requirements in OUSD (P&R) Memorandum, “Implementing Policy on Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness,” released May 8, 2025, are encouraged to elect to separate voluntarily no later than June 6, 2025.

Members who self-identified as having a current diagnosis or history of, or exhibit symptoms consistent with, gender dysphoria and initiated the process for voluntary separation or retirement prior to March 26, 2025, will have their applications processed following resubmission or self-identifying to voluntarily separate or retire. Following the June 6, 2025, deadline, the Department of the Air Force will initiate involuntary separation processes following the March 21, 2025, OUSD (P&R) Memorandum “Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness: Military Department Identification” guidance.
