During a ceremony surrounded by family, friends and fellow Airmen, Lt. Col. Rick Chadwick assumed command of the 701st Airlift Squadron Aug. 8, 2015, at the Yonkee Auditorium here.

Col. Tom McNamara relinquished command of the 701 AS to Lt. Col. Rick Chadwick during the formal event presided by Col. Caroline Evernham, 315th Airlift Wing Operations Group Commander.

Chadwick, who was initially assigned to the 317th Airlift Squadron upon joining the Air Force Reserve, is honored to be the leader of the men and women who comprise the 701 AS, also known as the “Turtles” by their squadron patch and call-sign.

“The last four years have been awesome,” said Chadwick describing his time with the Turtles since transitioning from the 317 AS. “The squadron opened its arms up and took me in as family, as one of its own. As excited as I am to be a commander, I am even more excited to be the commander of the 701st.”

“I am so proud that I can call you my friends and squadron mates,” said Chadwick. “ I know I will not be perfect but you can guarantee I will work my hardest every day to have your back and to support you.”
