Fire in the hole

ALI AIR BASE, Iraq -- Senior Airman Jonathan Sheridan, right, holds the detonator while Cpl. Jason Carlyle, left, watches the aftermath of a controlled detonation Dec. 3. Airmen of the 407th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal team unload nearly 1,200 pounds of expired munitions. They will use PE-4 and C-4 explosives to destroy the munitions ensuring the old munitions can never be used by the enemy. It also frees up storage space for newer, usable munitions. Airman Sheridan is assigned to the 407th ECES and is deployed from Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. Corporal Carlyle is assigned to the Australian Army.
