  • Career day encourages local girls to dream big

    This year’s Joint Base Charleston Women in Aviation Career Day, here March 20, was a resounding success according to event organizers.
  • Women in Aviation Career Day continues to inspire young girls after 10 years

    More than 130 teenage girls from middle and high schools around the Lowcountry attended the 10th Annual Joint Base Charleston Women in Aviation Career Day, March 21. The goal of the Career Day is for young ladies “to learn and to be inspired, and to check out some the options out there for you as careers for different jobs in the future” said Col. Jeanine McAnaney, 315th Airlift Wing vice commander. The event, one of the 315th AW’s most popular community engagement programs, features leading and pioneering women in their respective aviation related careers as guest speakers. This year’s speaker was no exception. The Air Force Reserve’s highest ranking enlisted Airman, Command Chief Master Sgt. Ericka Kelly captivated everyone by telling her life story.
  • Women In Aviation Career Day inspires local girls

    Over 130 middle and high school girls from 12 Lowcountry schools visited Joint Base Charleston March 22 to learn about jobs in aviation as part of the 315th Airlift Wing’s 9th annual Women in Aviation Career Day.
  • Local girls attend Women in Aviation Career Day

    Over 100 eighth and ninth-grade girls from 18 Charleston-area schools visited Joint Base Charleston March 24 to learn about jobs in aviation as part of the 8th annual Women in Aviation Career Day. This year during the formal event opening, a special guest shared her story about challenges she faced through her journey to success as a military F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot. Maj. Christina "Thumper" Hopper, from the 71st Flying Training Wing at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma. "Thumper" was the first African-American female fighter pilot to fly combat missions in a major war - Operation Iraqi Freedom.
