Citizen Airmen from the 701st Airlift Squadron at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina took to the sky in a C-17 Globemaster III over the Arizona desert early Saturday morning for mission critical training with the U.S. Air Force’s Wings of Blue parachute team.

The oldest C-17 pilot in the Air Force retires, whose departure marks the end of a legendary career. With more than 35 years of dedicated service, Lt. Col. Rick Davis, 317th Airlift Squadron aircraft operations officer, retired following an official ceremony Feb. 12, at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.

The 315th Airlift Wing received news late last week that one of its members, Senior Master Sgt. George  Counts Jr., died in a car crash along with his wife and father. Majors Mike Stratton and Jason Williams along with loadmasters Eric Zilaitis and George Counts, 317th Airlift Squadron Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., maintained the C-17 static display at Ysterplaat Air Force Base, Cape Town South Africa Sept. 21-25. The Africa Aerospace and Defense Exposition was the largest expo of air, land, and sea capabilities on the African continent. The 315th Airlift Wing received news late last week that one of its members, Senior Master Sgt. George Counts Jr., died in a car crash along with his wife and father. On the evening of Feb. 3 in Barnwell County, South Carolina, Counts’ vehicle was struck head on by another vehicle killing him, his wife Cynthia Counts, and father George Michael Counts, Sr. George Counts, Jr. was chief loadmaster with the 317th Airlift Squadron.

An operational evaluation of new synthetic cargo tie downs and winch cables is being conducted at Joint Base Charleston, S.C., Nov. 28, 2016. An operational evaluation of new synthetic tie downs and winch cables for the C-17 Globemaster III took place here in November 2016. Tie downs are ropes, cords, straps or chains that secure items during airlift operations; winch cables help adjust the tension on tie downs, securing the load.

Attendees of the Yeovilton, England crowd around the 315th Airift Wing's mini C-17 and a Charleston C-17 Globemaster III July 2. This was the mini C-17's first trip across the pond and was a huge hit at Yeovilton Air Day 2016. This is the 315th AWs second time visiting Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, England, and the mighty presence of the mini C-17 helped seal the deal for another “Best Static Display” award. The miniature C-17 has been used all across the United States to promote the Air Force Reserve and bolster recruiting efforts at air shows, parades and other community events.

Family, friends and fellow 445th Airlift Wing Airmen welcome home four reservists from the 89th Airlift Squadron at the Dayton International Airport, Dayton, Ohio March 3, 2017.  Capts.
