Private First Class Michael Petersen takes a moment for a photo at his main operating base in Can Tho Army Airfield, Vietnam in 1969. Petersen served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was assigned to the 156th Aviation Company, where he oversaw the maintenance of 17 U-6 Beavers, which were fixed wing, radial engine propeller aircraft. After serving in the Army, Petersen later transitioned to the Air Force Reserve in 1977, where he went on to serve 29 additional years and retired as the command chief master sergeant for the 315th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. Brig. Gen. Randall A. Ogden presents a certificate of retirement to Col. James B. Hurley June 7, 2015 at the Joint Base Charleston theater in Charleston, S.C. During his 33-33-year career, Hurley first served with the active duty Air Force before transitioning to the Air Force Reserve. This year marks the 29th iteration of the annual Patriot Hook exercise. The Air Force Reserve's 433rd Airlift Control Flight (ALCF) based at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, is serving as the lead agency, while other participating Air Force Reserve units include the 452nd Air Mobility Wing at March Air Reserve Base, California, the 439th Airlift Wing from Westover Air Reserve Base, Massachusetts, and the 315th ALCF from Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.
