Newman assumed command of the 315th Maintenance Group at the Joint Base Charleston theater Sunday. Colonel Brett A. Newman is the commander of the 315th Maintenance Group, Joint Base Charleston, S.C. The mission of the Maintenance Group is to oversee the training and readiness of over 350 Reservists assigned to three diverse units--the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, the Maintenance Squadron, and the Maintenance Operations Flight. He is also the civilian leader to more than150 civil service employees. The group's goal is to maintain technical proficiency to augment active duty forces in any contingency supporting the 41 C-17 aircraft assigned. Col. Newman is responsible for ensuring that this capability is sustained in support of Team Charleston's global mission. The colonel earned his commission through the Air Force ROTC program upon graduation from Middle Tennessee State University in 1987. He has served as a maintenance group commander, commanded a maintenance flight, two maintenance squadrons, a logistics squadron, and served as a Minuteman II ICBM combat crew flight commander. He served as an aircraft maintenance officer since 2003 with two overseas contingency operations tours in support of OPERATIONS IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. Colonel Newman is a winner of the Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award for field grade manager while stationed at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, N.Y. Col. Newman's Bio Col.
