The innovation team, Palmetto Spark, is comprised of Airmen from across Joint Base Charleston, and their mission is to enable Airmen to solve problems they face day-to-day. Currently, the team’s focus is on the manufacturing of face shields and hand sanitizer so DOD members can accomplish their mission with a layer of protection.

  • Air Force establishes training hub at JB Charleston for COVID-19 aeromedical evacuation

    Air Mobility Command has designated Joint Base Charleston as the sole Transport Isolation System (TIS) training hub for aeromedical evacuation Airmen in response to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.
  • President signs Executive Order calling up Air Force Reserve medics, other specialties

    On March 27, the President signed an Executive Order authorizing mobilization of the Reserve Component in response to COVID-19 operations.  For the Air Force Reserve, personnel already serving in the Selected Reserve and Participating Individual Ready Reserve, as well as those assigned to the Individual Ready Reserve, may be asked to volunteer to activate in support of COVID-19 response.  If taskings exceed the volunteer pool, mobilization of the IRR to active status is now authorized to ensure mission accomplishment.

    ​As the COVID-19 pandemic sweeps through the U.S., Joint Base Charleston is able to keep their C-17 Globemaster III’s flying by implementing a medical screening process for aircrew members.
  • Goldfein approves changes to Air Force song

    Goldfein made the announcement about changes to the third verse to more than 2,000 Airmen, industry officials and retirees during a joint appearance with Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright at the Air Force Association's Air Warfare Symposium.
