Senior Master Sgt. Brad Levander was recognized here Mar. 10 as the 2011 HQ 4th Air Force and Air Force Reserve Command Transportation Civilian Supervisor/Leader of the Year.

Col. Steven Chapman, 315th Airlift Wing Commander, presented Sergeant Levander with a plaque and a letter from Air Force Reserve chief, Major General Charles Stenner, stating," Your superb efforts, steadfast professionalism and continued dedication to the Air Force mission are greatly appreciated. Job well done!"

"I work with extraordinary people who do extraordinary things," Sergeant Levander said. "I have the privilege of working for great leaders, and they have a tremendous influence on me both professionally and personally."

"I am honored that I was selected for this award, but without the people who support me, I wouldn't be where I am today," he continued.

Sergeant Levander began his AF Reserve career with the 315th in 1995 after a career in the Navy where he worked with various Special Forces units and earned a Combat Action Ribbon.

In 2007 he was selected for his current position as the senior Air Reserve Technician with the 81st Aerial Port Squadron and uses his position to lead and mentor the Airmen under his watch.

"I grew up in the inner city of Detroit, and I know how it feels when people don't want to do things for other people," Levander said. "I'm in a position in life which allows me to give to others, and I'm glad to do it. It's just the right thing to do."

The Logistics Readiness Awards Program recognizes individuals and organizations within the logistics community for outstanding contributions to the success of the Air Force and Department of Defense missions.
