Technical Sergeant Kelly Dixon, 315th Airlift Wing was scheduled to be recognized by the Charleston River Dogs and the Charleston chapter of Women in Defense during an on-field ceremony for her nomination as Military Woman of the Year, on July 9, but due to inclement weather the game was regrettably canceled. The recognition ceremony will be rescheduled in the near future. The new date has yet to be determined.

Sergeant Dixon is no stranger to acknowledgment by the Charleston community. She was also recently selected as the Reservist of the Year by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce during the Chamber's annual Salute to the Military event.

"We're so very proud of Kelly and of her nomination for Military Woman of the Year, said Captain Keisha Promanee, 315th AW Maintenance Group Executive Officer. "She is very generous with her time and talents, works without complaint and always has a smile. She is most deserving of this recognition."

Sergeant Dixon is a single mother; a reservist and maintains a full time job, yet continues to contribute to numerous charitable functions. As a dedicated volunteer for the Lunch Buddy Program at River Oaks Middle School, She is an exceptional mentor every third Wednesday of the month. She also serves as assistant musician for several separate choirs at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. As well, she is an extremely active member of the Military Outreach Ministry at the church. Sergeant Dixon collects goods for care packages, sends inspirational emails and provides assistance to members of her church (and their families) who are deployed. As the team mom for a local youth basketball league, she supports and assists with more than 100 youth from the local area.

Sergeant Dixon also voluntarily prepares food for the Meals on Wheels Program and is an avid participant in the March of Dimes Walk-A Thon, which supports research for birth defects/premature births. She has been an American Red Cross Blood Donor for the past three years and is very involved in the Parent Teacher Organization at Sedgefield Middle School where her children attend school.
