Members of the 315th Airlift Wing volunteered their time during the United Way's 2010 National Day of Caring Sept 14, 2010 in the city of Charleston, S.C.

The Day of Caring gives people the opportunity to promote the spirit and value of volunteerism, increase awareness of local human service agencies and schools, and demonstrate how ordinary citizens can do great things by exemplifying service before self.

During the Day of Caring, Air Force Reserve members with the 315 AW volunteered their time at the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston and The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center. The Airmen, who gave their time, spent the day pressure washing, removing debris, painting, landscaping, cleaning and numerous other odd jobs.

The Ronald McDonald House of Charleston provides a "home away from home" for families of seriously ill children who are being treated at nearby hospitals. The house has room for 25 families each night, and the house eliminates the financial burden of costly hotels and provides a home-like atmosphere where families can lead a life as normal as possible during their time of need.

The DNLCC is a community-based, 501(c)(3) non-profit program that provides safe and non-threatening "one stop shopping" for victimized children and their families. Since 1991, DNLCC has helped over 17,000 children and their families.
