The Charleston RiverDogs hosted Military Appreciation Night Aug. 19, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park here.

Force Protection sponsored the event to honor servicemembers who have recently returned home from deployment.

Military members, retirees, DOD civilians and dependents enjoyed a night of food, drinks, activities and baseball as the RiverDogs battled it out against the Rome Braves from Georgia who shutout the RiverDogs 4-0.

Prior to the game, Joint Base Charleston Honor Guard members presented the colors. Staff Sgt. Timothy Womble, an aerospace ground equipment mechanic with the 437th Maintenance Squadron, sang the national anthem. Charleston Airmen performed a C-17 Globemaster III flyover, and Col. Steven J. Chapman, the commander for the 315th Airlift Wing, threw the opening pitch to start the game.
