Captain Bryan Lewis of the 315th Airlift Wing public affairs office was recently honored with the winning submission to The Charleston Angler's Photo and Essay Contest.

Capt. Lewis's inspirational tale titled "Yankee Luck" chronicles an amazing day of fishing on the Carolina coast with a group of his friends.

The title of the essay is a hint to what happens when Capt. Lewis's friend Jason, a first-time angler, and double lung transplant survivor spends his first day out on the Atlantic in search of a few mahi-mahi and wahoo. Jason suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, an incurable genetic disease that affects his lungs.

The moving essay was selected first out of 23 submissions- a credit to the story telling ability of Capt. Lewis and the stirring nature of the narrative.
