Day of Caring - Wing gives back to the community Published Sept. 13, 2009 By Capt. Wayne Capps 315 AW/PA CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, SC -- Members of the 315th Airlift Wing recently volunteered to give back to the community by participating in the United Way's National Day of Caring. Various members of the wing volunteered to support four local charitable projects Friday in order to give back to the local community. According to the United Way's web site, the Day of Caring is designed to promote the spirit and value of volunteerism, increase the awareness of local human service agencies and schools, and demonstrate what people working together for the community's good can accomplish. The two main projects wing members volunteered for were maintenance projects at Eagle Harbor Boys Ranch, a ranch for abused or neglected boys and a cleanup project at the Neighborhood House, a homeless shelter and soup kitchen. "I think it is important that the community sees military members giving back to the community they live in," said Senior Master Sergeant Bradley Kuhn, a member of the 315th Maintenance Squadron and one of the project leads at the Eagle Harbor Boys Ranch. For the past 6 years, Connie Danbury, from the 315th Operations Support Squadron, volunteered to head of the wing's day of caring activities. "I just find the projects from the United Way that I like and try to find support in the wing for that project," said Danbury. "It is very rewarding to help out." Besides the two main projects, wing members also supported the Navy by providing transportation to various locations and wing members delivered food for the Meals on Wheels program.
