Col. Stephen Lanier assumed command of the 315th Airlift Wing, Joint Base Charleston, during a ceremony here, April 14, 2024.

Maj. Gen. D. Scott Durham, commander of the Fourth Air Force, located at March Air Reserve Base, California, officiated the assumption.

“We are a ready force, ready now and transforming for the future,” said Durham. “To ensure that readiness, we have a task order from Lt. Gen. John Healy: Read it and execute it. Simple as that.”

Lanier is a 1990 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and joined the Air Force Reserve in 2001 after nearly 11 years on active duty. He earned his wings as a Distinguished Graduate of Undergraduate Pilot Training Class 91-14 at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

Lanier previously served as commander of the 916th Air Refueling Wing, Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina, the first unit that received the KC-46A Pegasus in the Air Force Reserve Command.

“The 315th is legendary,” said Lanier.

“As we turn our focus to training and preparation for great power competition, we continue to support contingencies, provide humanitarian relief and deter potential enemies by protecting American interests in every corner of the world,” said Lanier. “The 315th Airmen have proven time and again, they're up to any task.”

“No matter what the next spike demands of us, our Airmen will be the best prepared to adapt and succeed, no matter what the future brings,” said Durham.
