Joint Base Charleston leadership is closely monitoring the weather and will make a decision early Monday afternoon on which base services will be impacted beginning Tuesday morning.

Hurricane/Tropical Storm Debby likely to move very slowly over/around our area through mid-to-late week.

Hurricane/Tropical Storm Debbie has potential to bring historic rainfall (10-20 inches are possible with some areas getting as much as 30 inches) and areas of catastrophic flooding to the Southeast and our local Charleston area.

The storm’s slow movement over the Southeast can bring prolonged periods of impact through mid to late week.

Tropical storm-force winds, storm surge and tornadoes are possible in some areas. Long-term river flooding could inhibit recovery efforts into next week and beyond.

There is potential for 2-4 feet of storm surge inundation over normally dry tidal/near tidal regions.

Please read this important information about Joint Base Charleston’s preparation for the storm on Monday, 5 August:

  • Base facilities will be open with normal operating hours and mission operations have not changed.
  • FTEC is cancelled Monday August 5.
  • Review your emergency kit and ensure you have enough food and water for your family to weather the storm for at least 72 hours
  • For base residents, sandbag stations will be available on the Air Base and Weapons Station beginning 10 a.m. on Monday
  • Sandbag stations are available throughout the Charleston area (Link Below!)
  • Know Your Zone and learn about how to prepare your home
  • Stay tuned to the our wing Facebook page and download the AF Connect app for changes and updates as we get them.

Be sure your 315th Airlift Wing app has notifications turned on; besides our Facebook page, our app notifications will be our key areas of communication during this storm event.

Leadership also recommends downloading the AFPAAS (Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System) app. Once properly setup, the AFPASS app is much quicker than having to log into the AFPAAS website to enter accountability.
