Members of the 315th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston, S.C., completed a three-day junior NCO training event here today.

The purpose of the training was to ensure that up and coming NCOs are provided with the necessary tools, training and information resources to become the next generation of successful senior NCOs.

During the three-day training event 315 AW NCOs attended classes, participated in group breakout sessions and interacted with senior NCOs during a question and answer discussion panel.

Training classes ranged from finance and customs and courtesies, to professional military education and a host of other classes.

Chief Master Sgt. Gigi Manning - 315 AW command chief master sergeant - decided the training event was necessary after evaluating the success of the senior leader forum, which was held in August 2012.

"This training is critical due to the fact that our Wing is transitioning and many of our senior enlisted leaders are coming up on their high-year tenure and will be retiring," said Manning. "These junior NCOs will be the next senior NCOs within the next two to three years. They need to have the necessary tools this training will provide for them to be successful."

Staff. Sgt. Brooke Howells - a 315 AW Maintenance Squadron nondestructive inspection technician here - believes the training is crucial to the development of NCOs, like herself, who are ready, willing and able to advance their professional military careers to the next level.

"This training is very important to me because I'm a new ART," said Howells. "This has helped me not only learn more about being a supervisor, but being able to know the people I need to go to for help and how to help the airmen that come to me for support."

"I feel more equipped as a supervisor because of this training because of the knowledge I've gained from the training," she said. "
