Warrior Challenge takes off at 315th AW

Members of the 315th Airlift Wing participated in a “Warrior Challenge” team building relay event during the early morning hours of Jan. 5th, 2017, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C.

During the challenge, more than 30 Airmen were divided into eight teams. Teams averaging four members per team represented various agencies throughout the 315th AW. Events included a push-up contest, fireman’s carry and single file relays.

“This was our first event,” said Senior Master Sgt. Scott Boone, 315th AW Security Forces. “It started off just to be a one-time event but during the conception and development, members seemed to be excited so we figured to make it an annual event.”

The event began with members from the 315th Mission Support Group, which includes Security Forces, Civil Engineering, Aerial Port Squadrons, Force Support Squadron, and Logistics Readiness Squadron. However, once Airmen from other agencies heard about the challenge, they accepted it.

In the end, it was Airmen from the 315th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron that took home the bragging rights as winner of the Warrior Challenge.

“Everyone pulled their weight and came together,” said Senior Airman Anthony Tucker, 315th AMXS. “There’s no ‘I’ in team.”

The foundation of the challenge promoted a team building concept, with each event set up to encompass each team’s performances by forcing all members to work together. This way, every team is only as strong as its weakest member.

“I think it promotes comradery and a little competition which doesn't hurt every now and then,” added Boone.

After plenty of effective teamwork, sweat and entertainment, the Warrior Challenge left the 315th AW Airmen ready for another challenge.

“Other than the Airmen working as a team, I hope they just have fun,” said Boone. “Like I said before, healthy competition is good but motivating each other goes a long way.”
