JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The 315th Mission Support Group at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina was awarded the Tech Sgt. Anthony C. Campbell Trophy at the 21st Annual Raincross Trophy Award virtual event held March 16.
The 315th MSG’s efforts during the 2020 COVI-19 pandemic largely contributed to the accomplishment.
“Winning this award validates the body of work and caliber of Airmen we have in the 315th MSG,” said Col. Bobby Degregorio, 315th MSG commander. “These are folks that pushed through COVID protocols smartly and ensured that the wing and Air Force mission not only was accomplished but further that excellence was achieved in accomplishing the mission.”
Some of the COVID-19 related accomplishments of the 315th MSG include: support of the U.S. North Command COVID Joint Task Force, deploying an 85 person team to support 10 Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Human Health Services treatment facilities.
In the innovation arena, the group worked with Sig Sauer to upgrade the wing’s Berretta M9 service pistol to the Sig M18 and worked with the Sig Academy to train and certify the wing’s combat arms instructors on the new M18. The group also worked with the Air Force Reserve Command Surgeon General to create a COVID screening tool.
On the deployment front, the group was at the forefront of the COVID-19 response by processing 16 aeromedical and aerospace medicine taskings. They also were major players in the Patriot Sands and Patriot Palm exercises.
“The MSG Team has shown, over the past year, that we absolutely can accelerate change and will not lose as we worked through a complex mission set here at Charleston,” Degregorio said. “I firmly believe you will not find a group in the Air Force with a better attitude and get it done spirit than the mighty 315th MSG … On behalf of Chief Master Sgt. Janet Rodell, the 315th MSG chief and myself, I can’t thank this group enough for all they do and how they do it. ‘It’s All Attitude.’”
“I commend the men and women of the 315th MSG for their tireless and dependable support to the mission of the 315th Airlift Wing and the U.S. Air Force,” said Col. Adam Willis, 315th AW commander. “They exemplify the Air Force Core Values – Integrity first, Service before self, and Excellence in all we do. Over this past challenging year, their dedication has been truly invaluable.”
The Tech. Sgt. Anthony C. Campbell Trophy recognizes those who put service before self. The award was created in memory of Campbell, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service of his country while steering his team clear of an improvised explosive device in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan.
The Raincross event celebrates the excellent work and commitment of the 16 wings and one group in Fourth Air Force and was a highlight of the 4th AF Commander's Conference.
