As Hurricane Matthew approaches South Carolina and Joint Base Charleston, the base's aircrew have been busy evacuating C-17 Globemaster IIIs this week to various locations in the United States including Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

The 315th leadership is still monitoring Hurricane Matthew as it gets close to the SC coast. Joint Base Charleston is currently in HURCON 2 and there is a Hurricane Watch in place for ALL coastal counties including Charleston, Colleton and Dorchester Counties.

"Please remember there is a mandatory evacuation order in place for the Lowcountry," said Maj. Wayne Capps, 315th Airlift Wing Public Affairs officer. "Any member of the 315 AW or their families can call the 315th on-call Public Affairs line with questions, (843) 297-1078. Please continue to stay safe everyone!"

Active and Reserve aircrews will continue to support their mission of rapid global mobility during the hurricane and will likely participate in relief efforts to affected areas in coming weeks.

Due to Hurricane Matthew, a Limited Evacuation Order of South Carolina Hurricane Evacuation Zones was issued Oct. 5 by the Joint Base Charleston commander. All Joint Base personnel are expected to evacuate the area and will return once damage is assessed and it is safe to return

Members of the 1st Combat Camera Squadron at Joint Base Charleston are joining the evacuating aircraft.

Joint Base Charleston leadership encourages everyone to stay tuned to local news updates.  315th Airlift Wing personnel should also download the 315th AW mobile device app by searching "315th Airlift Wing" in their app store.  Col. Gregory Gilmour, 315th AW commander, uses the app as one of the methods the wing uses to send important alerts and updates.  Stay tuned to the 315th AW on Facebook HERE.
