JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Lt. Col. John Gurrieri assumed command of the 317th Airlift Squadron during a change of command ceremony from Lt. Col. Stan Davis Oct. 14, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C.
Family, friends, and Team Charleston members attended the ceremony in the Yonkie Auditorium. It was officiated by Col. Stephen Lanier, 315th Airlift Wing operations group commander.
“This is a time for celebration for the 317th Airlift Squadron,” said Lanier. “To celebrate the successes under Lt. Col. Davis and to anticipate successes, with confidence, under Lt. Col. Gurrieri.”
Prior to assuming command, Gurrieri attended the Air Force Academy, graduating and receiving his commission in 1992. During his tenure on active duty, he piloted the T-37, T-38, C-141, and C-17 Globemaster III.
In 2003, Gurrieri left active duty to join the Air Force Reserve. Gurrieri is no stranger to the 315th AW. Before taking command, he was the 300th AS of safety chief and flight commander.
“I like to fly airplanes,” said Gurrieri, a pilot with 5,500 logged flight hours. “Leading the 317th Airlift Squadron will be an awesome responsibility. I’ll work hard.”
Gurrieri promised to never give up, and carry the torch of the 317th AS brightly into the future.
Davis will be the new 315th OG readiness deputy.
