JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- This year has been a challenging year for many people, but for many maintainers at the 315th Airlift Wing, it hit close to home when one of their own, Chief Master Sgt. Reginald Green, 52, died Dec. 2, 2020.
Green was a Senior Master Sergeant at the time of his death but was promoted to Chief posthumously.
Green, of Blythewood, South Carolina, was an Air Force Reservist serving 30 years at Joint Base Charleston, most recently as the 315th Maintenance Squadron’s Accessories Flight chief.
Green was a Tech. Sgt. in the Reserve when Capt. Chris Long, now with the 315th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, first met him. Long was a Senior Airman at the time.
“Reggie was the mentor you always hoped to be,” Long said. “He was compassionate and loving; no matter the rank above or below him, you understood your importance to him when he spent time with you.”
“He mentored everyone and I don't know a time when I didn't see him smiling,” Long said. “He never made his service commitment appear to be a job to him, it was something he enjoyed. People were his passion, all people.”
When not wearing his Air Force uniform, Green, worked for the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission, playing golf or spending time with his family and friends.
Green was born in Moncks Corner, S.C. in 1968, and later graduated from Berkely High School. He graduated from Claflin University, in Orangeburg, S.C. with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
He was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. as well as a Mason for many years. A lover of golf and people, he wore many titles; Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Cousin, Friend…and simply Reginald (also known as Reggie, Reg, and Leddie),
Green is survived by his wife Jennifer, daughters Shantasia and Lakin, and mother Elizabeth.
